Our primary area of expertise centers on the design and implementation of digital substations, employing IEC 61850 Standard and SEL TiDL technology. As our organization expands, we are seeking Junior and Senior Substation Commissioning Engineers in several U.S. locations.
Role Description
As a Commissioning Engineer based in the United States, you will be responsible for testing, and commissioning substation protection and control systems for our clients. You will also be expected to work closely with other team members, suppliers, and contractors.
· Excellent troubleshooting skills in protection and control, automation, HMI, or relay networks.
· Review substation drawings and perform point-to-point checks.
· Develop substation equipment and protective relay commissioning and testing procedures.
· Lead onsite testing and commissioning activities for all substation-related equipment.
· Modify, test, and commission substation Data Concentrator Units (DCU) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) from various vendors such as SEL, Schneider, Siemens, ABB, and Hitachi.
· Modify, test, and commission protection relay devices from various vendors, such as SEL, Schneider, Siemens, ABB, Hitachi, and GE.
· Download Sequence of Event records and COMTRADE files as part of relay event analysis.
· Develop substation energization plans.
· Engage with clients as a trusted advisor to achieve their substation commissioning needs.
· Provide technical guidance to ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices.
· Develop and lead operation and maintenance programs.
Required Qualifications
· Excellent communication and people skills for client development and vendor interactions.
· Strong organizational skills and technical writing in English.
· Strong critical thinking skills in substation protection and control.
· Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or proven hands-on field experience.
· Minimum of 5 years for Junior and minimum of 10 years for Senior, of electric power experience completing substation protection and control commissioning projects.
· Configuration and testing expertise of protection relay and automation devices from different vendors such as ABB, Hitachi, SEL, Schneider, or Siemens.
· Troubleshoot protection/automation schemes and validate in-service conditions.
· Experience testing various substation equipment such as Current and Potential Transformers (CT/PT), Generator Step Up Transformers (GSU), High and Medium Voltage Breakers, Medium Voltage Switchgear and Low Voltage Switchboards.
· Ability and willingness to continue learning.
· Must be authorized to work in the US and travel nationally/internationally up to 50% of the time.
Additional Required Qualifications for the Senior Position
· Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and implementing safe and environmentally sound work practices.
· Conduct a safety assessment of the job site and safety briefing with the testing crew, outlining current job site conditions, power system status, and emergency response procedures.
· Ensure compliance with required safety work practices and maintain project schedule.
· Execute job tasks according to the approved project plan and schedule. Communicate project plan and schedule to crew members. Ensure crew members' tasks are clearly communicated.
· Promptly report any concerns to management regarding safety, commissioning tasks, or project schedule.
· Provide timely project reports and commissioning test reports to project management/engineering staff.
· Develop a test plan and test report template, if necessary.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to work in outside environments with varying climates.
· Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, climb, and use arm and hand movements.
· Ability to carry tools and handle materials/equipment of up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to work at heights on lifts, and/or stepladders.
Preferred Qualifications
· NETA training or certification.
· Multilingual is a plus.
